The completion of my 2nd book 1st draft is complete, currently named the Menagerie. This book I started July 2022. What led to this book being written first and foremost is my love for the circus, add to that mystery and throw in the paranormal.
I don’t believe I have come across or read a book like mine, but there may be a similar theme that exists. Prior to writing this book, I wrote a series on life in the circus from yesterday to today which focused on how the circus came to be along with those so-called freaks who made the circus so special. Although the traditional circus with Lions, Tigers and bears cease to exist as now most circuses include acrobats, and light shows created holographic animals which are not the same.
I get that many feel that circuses of the past were abusive to the animals, that animals are not made to entertain, and I guess to a certain degree I understand as often animals were abused, mistreated, and forced to perform all in the name of money. But I think it can be easy to forget how influential and how the circus’ long history is important to yesterday.
I get certain things we should try to learn from and move on and not try recreating, but circus is sadly not coming back in the traditional sense. I am hopeful my book will keep the name of the circus alive although fictional with a twist, I think when others read it eventually will hopefully find it interesting and unique sparking interest in the circus and especially those special performers.
In the meantime, I will begin editing some, I believe I need a break and then I will get right into it and I do not believe it will take a year to edit as this book is much shorter than my first book. Stay tuned.
