I often think about the amount of violence that plagues our society in television, film, music, and media and how desensitized we are. Often when I watch television with ads, there are collages of shows and films that highlight a certain genre like horror.

Watching one the other day there was one on Peacock that highlighted killers and murders and deaths, seeing that American Psycho was used multiple times.
The Love of Horror
I’ll admit I’ve been watching horror movies and violence from a young age, remembering when my father won father of year like myself who was eight years old to see Childs play and my sister who was six to see that movie in the theaters, seeing all the classics Halloween, all the Nightmare of Elm streets, IT , Friday the 13th’s and whatever was on at the time. Much of my writing incorporates horror themes with murder, killing , paranormal themes.

But frankly I believe that due to the amount of violence we see, it also becomes acceptable to conduct such acts, but I know it’s not. Its never okay to kill , murder or hurt anyone, but with films and television, its almost encourage, especially revenage, thinking of all the Rambo films I have seen over the years, terminators and the list goes on.
Life Imitating Art
When I watch such films and television I also look at the plausibility of something like that could happen, for instance, having never seen the film Scanners, but there was one seen where which is often promoted where the character’s head explodes, not possible as far as I know or in Halloween four or five, where again one of the support characters, the father is in the basement fixing the washing machine and Michael just happens to there, taking the abusive father electrocuting him to the point his head explodes, again I don’t think its possible but in that instance it could be.

We often root for when murderers like Michael Myers or other proganist kill bad people, regardless there is still the promotion of killing. I get film and television, this is common and will not change, but at certain points we as a society think its acceptable, Why I ask? Will this ever change and if its not going to change, what effect does that have on society and the mental state of our culture where it will only get worse?
The Body Count Continues to Rise
It seems today people carelessly hurt, kill others without a second thought, which just goes to show you the Lack of God in their lives. Its as if harming others is acceptable and the best option to getting what we want and that is not the answer, it sickens me.
I have seen and believe this causes our society mental harm seeing it myself as the images hurt and affect me negatively. One could say well just don’t watch, ignore it, move on, but its not that easy.
I feel this sense of sickness at times when I write my fictional stories to add great amounts of gore as these are thoughts already in my mind.
Even looking at some of my stories when I was twelve I would often write short stories about death, killing, monsters, cannibalism and the list goes on.
I know for some it is just fiction, doesn’t exist in real society, but if anything minds of susceptible to harm especially now with social media.
One of the films that for some weird reason I identify with and like is “The Joker”, but what I like about that movie is not the violence, but that sadness of a broken man, who was forgotten about, a mentally ill man, who many would consider just crazy, a psychopath and maybe he is, but I would like to think he got there for a reason if you were to examine is childhood and life.

I get it, it’s just a movie, not based in reality, but then coming soon is Joker 2, with both the Joker and Harley Quinn who are psychopaths. What I find interesting is that film and even society try to create sympathy for these characters, and even at times find acceptance in what they do, on account, they are both broken people, but at the end of the day they are still allowed to survive to live their lives.
Mental Illness is Not Funny and Not for your enjoyment
It used to be that those who suffered with mental illness were helped and not encouraged to be violent, but today it seems that is acceptable and understandable as people are not themselves.
It is never acceptable in any form, whether one has a mental illness or not to commit acts of terror, violence, murder, or killing just because a person is not sound of mind.
This Behavior is not acceptable
I get this world makes one and can make one crazy to allow this behavior but it’s not natural or normal, it’s not civil, which is what what people want today.
I guess whatever makes money these days as Joker and I am sure Joker II will be very successful at the box office, only making it seem more acceptable that unstable, depressed, psychopathic clowns run the city and cause havoc and Manheim.

Why are we as a society so surprised when there are mass shootings, murders, and violence in society when we only just seem to encourage this behavior.
I am not saying do away with films, and television, but be more reasonable as media has great influence over the minds of others, especially the young like children and even teens. The damage is real and some may question the effects of today of social media versus film and television violence and they are both bad.
Thinking of our political clowns who make a fool of themselves each day, acting as the real clowns, spewing venom from their months against each other and the people of this country, what can we expect in how we are to act towards each other.

Some may think I’m taking film and media way too seriously and to lighten up but No I will not . We in society have become too accustomed to thinking it’s okay to marginalize those in need and those who struggle and suffer in life, they are not a punchline.
