Freddy’s Nightmares: A Hidden Gem of 90s Horror TV

Do you remember one of the greatest Horror television shows that once existed Freddy’s nightmares running for two season between 1988-1990.

I remember this show fondly but not for the reason one would think. I was actually eight years old when it first came out, having watched the films. Mom and dad were divorced and I would spend every other weekend with dad at Grandma and Grandpas house.

Freddy would come on at about 1 or 2 in the morning and I remember waiting to watching it, but I couldn’t turn on the normal television as it would wake the family, so I went into the kitchen and there was a small miniature television and I began to watch. It was a short time later , grandma Isabella waked in angerly and told me “GO BACK TO BED”, immediately shutting off the television, feeling bad and mad for not being able to watch, still affecting me today as you can see.

Each episode tells a different story with dark or grim themes, set in the fictional town of Springwood, Ohio, specifically on Elm Street, the same setting as the A Nightmare on Elm Street films. Although the Freddy Krueger character occasionally plays a role in the plot, most of the stories do not involve him directly. However, it is often hinted that Krueger indirectly influenced the desolate nature of the plotlines.

Similar to the Crypt Keeper in Tales from the Crypt, Krueger’s primary function is to host the series. He appears in regular bumper segments, offering ominous or slapstick reactions to the episode’s events, culminating in a quick and usually eerie epilogue at the end.

What I found interesting is many of the cast were unknowns such as :

Currently I am able to watch on Prime LIVE on thursdays, bringing back memories. Realizing even when I watch the show how much ineuendo and risque progaming was involved. Although on regular television at the time, this was why it was show in the late, late hours.

For those who loved these types of series, one can not go wrong with Tales from the Crypt with the cryptkeeper, another classic television series, that probably couldnt be made today.
