Happy Birthday Mom (Linda Gutierrez), it has been always ten years since you have been with us, but you are missing every day. You would have been celebrating your 66th birthday today. Imagining we would be celebrating your birthday simply at your favorite restaurant, Olive Garden, you were simple like that no fancy restaurants and I know there are better restaurants, but you loved it there. You would have myself, Mikaylah, your granddaughter, Delia, Jennifer (Sister) and Dad all together.
I know you would be so happy, but who knows what type of shape you would in as your health was not always good even when I was a young boy. But you always had a smile on your face, regardless of the hardship you struggled with, something I have learned from for myself over the years and trust me I have had a lot of hardships in this life.
You were always a giver, as a mom you would give me your last dime and did when you were alive. Mikaylah was the joy of your life as your first and only granddaughter, proud of Jennifer and I in what we had accomplished. What is amazing after all these years, you never know when your last day will be on earth, we honestly thought you would have lived for many more years, but that was not in God’s plan for you as he had called you the heaven. I know you are in heaven, because you gave your heart to Jesus, which gave me great comfort.
Although I would have loved for you to be here today, I understand it’s not possible. I have attempted to not feel angry or jealous at times for you not here, when I see so many other families with grandparents, mothers and fathers who get to live long lives. Mikaylah also loves Olive Garden herself, like a chip off the old block, a remembrance and honor of you each time we go. Observing happy families with their grandmothers celebrating but I can’t have that. I will not forget she has a grandmother today, Mama Conchi who we honor but lives in El Salvador, but she had gotten moments to spend and love Mikaylah, we are thankful for, a truly strong women to this day.
I look forward to the day I see you again in Heaven, until then I will honor and keep your memory alive so that your spirit lives on, but truthfully, I see so much of you in Mikaylah each day as if your spirit resides in her as if I am speaking to you. Not sure who believes but when our loved ones pass and go to Heaven, they watch over us like angels, but Jesus is our protector.
Love you,
Joseph
