Reflections on the Gaza Peace Deal, America’s Challenges, and the Need to Give Glory to God

For those who regularly read my posts, you may have noticed that I often discuss a wide range of topics. At times, I write with great passion, especially when I mention my books. Politics, however, is a subject I generally dislike. It often triggers strong emotions in me, largely because of the injustices I observe happening in this country.

Personal Perspective and Family History

When I think of my grandfather Moses, I am reminded of the sacrifices made by those who fought for our freedoms. He served in World War II, directly fighting the Nazis. He was a Christian, a devoted father and husband, and, in my opinion, had a heart of gold when it came to my sister and me. Many who fought for our freedoms would likely be disheartened by the current state of affairs.

The War in Gaza: Tragedy and Resolution

A significant event that has recently concluded is the War in Gaza. The murder of Israelis on October 7, 2023, was a monstrous act perpetrated by Hamas against innocent civilians. Prior to this, I knew of Hamas only as a terrorist organization. For those unfamiliar with its origins, Hamas stands for Harakat al-Muqawamah al-Islamiyya (Islamic Resistance Movement). It was established during the First Intifada, a Palestinian uprising against Israeli occupation, and has its roots in the Muslim Brotherhood. Over time, Hamas has grown into a major political and military force within Palestinian society.

The attacks on October 7 resulted in 1,200 deaths and 251 hostages, leading to a massive Israeli military response in Gaza. This response caused tens of thousands of Palestinian deaths. Hamas, which has been designated a terrorist organization by the US, UK, Israel, and other nations, has been significantly weakened as a result of the conflict.

The Peace Deal and Its Aftermath

The scale of this tragedy angers many, but there are also problems within the United States that deserve attention. Recently, a deal was brokered to halt the fighting in Gaza. This deal was facilitated by Donald Trump, Jared Kushner, and mediators including Qatar.

The end of the war has brought relief to many, especially since innocent lives have been lost on both the Israeli and Palestinian sides. There is a sentiment among some that credit for the peace should go to Trump and his administration. I am willing to acknowledge his efforts. However, this peace deal did not come without cost—secret agreements took place and money changed hands. Trump is transactional by nature; his actions are rarely without personal benefit. While some people genuinely seek peace for its own sake, Trump and his administration do not fit that description.

Although fighting has ceased, it is important to recognize that this peace may not be permanent. True and lasting peace in the Middle East, in my belief, will only come when Jesus returns.

Consequences of the Conflict

People are being reunited with loved ones, both living and deceased. Sadly, many of the dead remain buried under rubble in Gaza, with reports indicating that 10,000 people are still unaccounted for as recovery efforts continue amid the destruction.

As of now, 47 Israeli hostages remain in Gaza, with 20 presumed alive and 25 presumed dead. The first phase of the deal spans six weeks and includes the release of 33 hostages, among them 12 women and children, men aged 50 and above, and injured civilians, including two Americans.

Three hostages were released on the first day, and four more on the seventh day. Subsequently, three hostages will be released every seven days, with the final 14 released during the last week of the initial phase.

Due to this peace deal, Trump has received international praise and fame during a celebratory trip to Israel and Egypt, where Hamas released all 20 living hostages and Arab partners backed the agreement.

Faith and Recognition

As a Christian who loves Jesus and His people—including Jews and Israel—I rejoice at the prospect of peace. I believe that God used Trump and others involved in this deal, but it is important to recognize that this is man’s agreement. While Trump deserves credit, I am troubled by the absence of public gratitude to God. From what I have observed, Trump and his administration have primarily thanked themselves for their achievements.

God’s people are important to Americans, but there are significant challenges facing our own country. The rise of fascism, authoritarianism, hate, homelessness, crime, incivility, gun violence, and murder are ongoing issues. Who will end the conflict at home? It appears that Trump often exacerbates divisions rather than healing them. Hate, racism, and greed are longstanding problems, and true leadership is needed to address these challenges.

The Trump administration claims to be addressing crime by targeting illegal migrants, but the reality is that many criminals in the US evade justice daily. The focus on migrants—landscapers, farmers, and vendors—is misplaced when compared to the broader problems facing the nation.

The State of America

In states like California, people are struggling to survive as health insurance, benefits, jobs, and livelihoods are stripped away. Mental health issues are worsening, and suicide rates—especially among young people—continue to rise. Despite these challenges, I trust that God is in control and allows adversity for a reason; nothing happens by chance.

Conclusion: Giving Glory to God

Ultimately, I am asking that we give glory to God, especially for the end of the war in Gaza. It would have meant a lot to hear public acknowledgment of God’s role in bringing resolution. Instead, Trump has taken multiple victory laps, receiving praise from world leaders who hail him as a savior for Israel and Palestine. However, he is not a savior or a king—just a man seeking control. I have known men like him, as I grew up with someone similar.

Some of you who have read this, may be screaming to just give Trump his due, acknowledge what he did was amazing, it was all him. Sure he played a role, but it wasn’t just him, as there was an Army that made this happen, now only time will tell if peace will last if the deal will be honored.

Rant over!
